Eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis) is a beautiful herb with small purple or white flowers. The Latin name, Euphrasia, is from the ancient Greek word, Euphrosyne, meaning gladness. She was one of the three daughters of the Greek God, Zeus, known as the Three Graces. Euphrosyne was distinguished for her joy and mirth.  The plant is an annual, that grows up to 8 inches high, and blooms in late summer and autumn. It is found in the wild in grassy meadows and pastures in Hungary, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and other countries in Europe. The whole above-ground plant is used as an herbal remedy. The best time to collect the plant is in mid to late summer while in full flower. It is commonly prepared as a fluid extract.
